Obi-wan Kenobi: Limited Series Review

The Obi-wan Kenobi show made me extremely nervous going in. I allowed a lot of the supposed plot leaks and developments get to my head and muddy up my expectations of the show. I was very worried that the show would break canon in a multitude of different ways.

Even after finishing episode four, I was still worried that we were in store for a divisive finale. However for the fans who love Disney Star Wars, they got a spectacular final two episodes. For the "OG" fans on the other hand, they got off fairly scot-free. Nothing I can really think of really broke canon.

I mean sure, is it believable that child Luke couldn't tell the difference between a Inquisitor with a lightsaber and a Tusken Raider with a gaffi stick? Not really. Is it possible? Yes, technically. And Leia not knowing (or acting like he didn't) Obi-wan Kenobi when recording the message to put in to R2 can be explained away with the last bit of dialog child Leia has with Kenobi.

To summarize, we could have had a very divisive, canon breaking series here and instead we got an emotional final fight (minus the throwing rocks) and a very awesome new character in Reva (who I still believe should have died but I'm still excited to see what they do with her). All in all the Obi-wan Kenobi Limited Series delivered on all of it's promises. It delivered an awesome finale and an awesome Clone Wars flashback. We got one of the most badass Darth Vader moments at the end of episode five. My complaints are with the writing being ugly at times, some of the choreography was bad, and some of the ways they entangled the story with canon is tough to explain.

Overall Rating:

7.3/10
